The racing world is once again grappling with heartbreaking news. Former Indianapolis 500 driver Rick Treadway has died at the age of 56 following a motorcycle accident on May 30. Treadway is best remembered for competing in the 2002 Indianapolis 500, one of motorsports' most prestigious events. Rick Treadway's Racing Career
Although Rick Treadway's time in the INDYCAR Series was brief, he left lasting memories that many still cherish. He made 11 INDYCAR starts during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. His series debut came at Kentucky Speedway in 2001, and he later raced in the 2002 Indianapolis 500 for Treadway Racing, a team owned by his father, Fred Treadway. In that iconic race, Treadway started 17th and finished 29th after an accident with Tony Kanaan on Lap 90. His best INDYCAR result was a fifth-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in 2001. Before reaching INDYCAR, he competed in Formula 2000, SCCA events, and several short-track open-wheel series. Off the track, he worked as a commercial pilot and served as a Federal Aviation Administration-certified flight instructor.
