Thiruvananthapuram: The Fraternity of Residents' Associations Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT), an umbrella body representing hundreds of residents' associations in the state capital district, has submitted a memorandum seeking comprehensive and sustainable development of Thiruvananthapuram.
Key Demands in the Memorandum
The memorandum, addressed to the chief minister-designate V D Satheesan and KPCC president Sunny Joseph, highlighted several key demands. These include the establishment of a high court bench with filing power, development of the Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road, establishment of AIIMS, creation of a separate ministerial portfolio for capital city development, and integrated development and beautification of the state capital with better civic amenities and urban infrastructure.
Urgent Issues to be Addressed
The organisation urged the government to take urgent steps to resolve persistent issues affecting residents, such as traffic congestion, waterlogging, waste management, drinking water shortages, and poor road conditions. In the memorandum signed by FRAT general secretary J Moses, the association also called for scientific waste treatment systems, expansion of drainage networks, improved public transport facilities, and effective implementation of e-governance initiatives.
Urban Planning and Major Projects
The organisation stressed the importance of coordinated urban planning in view of the rapid expansion of the city and the growth of major projects such as Technopark and Vizhinjam International Seaport. The residents' body further demanded stronger measures to tackle the stray dog menace, better maintenance of public spaces, and increased focus on environmental protection. It also sought timely completion of ongoing infrastructure projects and improved coordination among various government departments.
