Geely Recalls 5,584 Emgrand Sedans in UAE Over Fuel System Safety Issue
Geely Recalls Over 5,500 Cars in UAE for Free Repair

In a significant safety initiative, AGMC, the official distributor for Geely vehicles in the United Arab Emirates, has launched a voluntary recall affecting thousands of sedans. The action targets a potential technical fault in the fuel system to ensure driver safety across the Emirates.

Scope and Reason for the Geely Emgrand Recall

The recall impacts a total of 5,584 Geely Emgrand sedans sold in the UAE. This decision was prompted by information from Geely's global headquarters in Hangzhou, China, which identified a specific defect. The issue involves a non-vented fuel filler cap installed on certain vehicles.

According to the distributor, this cap may not allow the fuel system to breathe properly during extended driving. This can lead to a vacuum pressure buildup inside the fuel tank. In extreme scenarios, the accumulated pressure could deform the tank and cause it to press against the fuel pump. This situation poses a potential risk of a fuel leak, a serious safety hazard.

The affected vehicles were manufactured over a nearly one-year period, specifically from August 3, 2023, to July 4, 2024. Owners of Emgrand sedans produced within this timeframe are urged to take action.

What Owners Need to Do for Free Repair

AGMC has emphasized that all corrective work will be performed at absolutely no cost to the vehicle owners. The comprehensive service procedure includes several key steps to resolve the issue permanently.

The primary fix involves replacing the current fuel filler cap with a new, properly vented version. Additionally, technicians will clean the vehicle's carbon canister, a crucial component of the emissions and vapor management system. A full inspection of related parts will also be conducted, with any other defective components replaced free of charge.

Prasanth Karthikeyan, Head of Aftersales for Geely Brands at AGMC, reassured customers that their safety and confidence are the top priorities. He stated that trained technicians are prepared to complete the service efficiently, ensuring owners can continue to drive with peace of mind.
