Large parts of Gujarat are expected to continue experiencing hot and humid conditions over the next two days, with maximum temperatures remaining above 40 degrees Celsius in isolated pockets across the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Surendranagar recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44 degrees Celsius, while Ahmedabad sweltered at 43.6 degrees on Wednesday.
Temperature Forecast
The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad is likely to touch 44 degrees on Thursday. The IMD has forecast hot and humid conditions for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Vadodara, along with coastal areas of Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra-Kutch.
Dry Weather and Temperature Drop
While dry weather is expected to prevail across Gujarat for the next three days, the weather department has indicated a gradual fall in temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees after the next 48 hours. This slight relief will be welcomed by residents enduring the intense heat.
Rainfall Expected from May 30
From May 30 onwards, parts of north Gujarat and Kutch are likely to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers. Districts including Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Mahisagar are expected to witness isolated rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph.
Reason for Changing Weather
The IMD said the changing weather pattern was linked to the further advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, along with a fresh western disturbance likely to affect northwest India from May 28. This shift in weather systems is bringing both the current heat and the upcoming rain.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat over the next two days, while those in northern districts should prepare for possible thunderstorms and gusty winds from May 30.
