The relentless heat wave in Haryana shows no signs of abating, with Rohtak emerging as the hottest location in the state, recording a scorching 44.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts, cautioning residents to stay indoors during peak hours.
Temperature Trends Across Haryana
According to the meteorological department, the maximum temperatures in most parts of the state remained above normal by 4 to 6 degrees. Apart from Rohtak, other cities like Hisar, Sirsa, and Bhiwani also experienced extreme heat, with mercury levels crossing the 44-degree mark. The minimum temperatures too have been elevated, providing little respite during the night.
Health Advisory and Precautions
Health officials have advised people to avoid direct sun exposure, especially between 12 pm and 4 pm. They recommend staying hydrated, wearing light cotton clothing, and using umbrellas or caps when stepping out. Hospitals have been put on alert to handle heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and dehydration.
Impact on Daily Life
The intense heat has disrupted normal life in the state. Schools in several districts have adjusted their timings, with many opting for early morning sessions. The demand for electricity has surged as residents rely heavily on fans, coolers, and air conditioners. Power distribution companies are managing the load with caution, though sporadic outages have been reported in some areas.
Forecast and Relief Measures
The IMD predicts that the heat wave conditions will persist for the next 48 hours, with a possible slight drop in temperatures thereafter. The state government has set up cooling centers in public places and is distributing free water and ORS packets in vulnerable localities. Farmers have been advised to provide adequate shade and water to livestock and to irrigate crops during early morning or evening hours.
As the heat wave continues, residents are urged to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines to avoid any health emergencies.
