The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating that Himachal Pradesh will experience a mix of snow, hail, and rain from April 28 to May 3. The advisory covers various parts of the state, particularly the higher reaches and mid-hill regions.
Weather Alert Details
According to the IMD, a western disturbance is likely to affect the region, leading to isolated to scattered precipitation. The higher altitudes, including tribal areas, may witness snowfall, while mid-hills and plains could receive rain accompanied by hail.
Expected Impact
- Snowfall: Expected in high-altitude areas like Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, and parts of Kullu and Shimla districts. This may disrupt travel and daily activities in these regions.
- Hailstorms: Likely in lower and mid-hills, posing risks to standing crops and horticulture, especially apple orchards which are in full bloom.
- Rain: Widespread light to moderate rain predicted across the state, which could lead to landslides in vulnerable areas.
Advisory for Residents and Tourists
The local administration has been alerted to remain prepared for any emergency. Tourists planning trips to Himachal are advised to check weather updates and avoid venturing into high-risk areas. Farmers have been cautioned to take protective measures for their crops.
Previous Weather Events
Earlier this month, the state experienced unseasonal rain and snow, causing damage to agriculture and infrastructure. The upcoming spell is expected to be similar in intensity.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during hailstorms and ensure safety of livestock. The IMD will issue further updates as the weather system evolves.
