The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has strongly condemned the Pakistani state for the spiralling violence in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. In a recent statement, the HRCP expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation, which has resulted in numerous casualties and widespread displacement of civilians.
Escalating Violence in Balochistan
Balochistan has witnessed a surge in attacks by separatist groups and security forces' operations, leading to a cycle of violence. The HRCP noted that extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and restrictions on civil liberties have become commonplace. The commission called for an immediate end to human rights abuses and urged the government to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Turmoil
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the situation remains volatile due to the presence of militant groups and counter-terrorism operations. The HRCP highlighted incidents of targeted killings, bomb blasts, and the destruction of infrastructure. Civilians, particularly in tribal districts, bear the brunt of the conflict, with limited access to justice and basic services.
Call for Accountability
The HRCP emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in state actions. It criticized the lack of effective measures to protect civilians and ensure their rights. The commission urged the Pakistani government to prioritize peacebuilding efforts, address root causes of violence, and uphold international human rights standards.
Furthermore, the HRCP called on the international community to take notice of the crisis and support initiatives aimed at restoring peace and stability in the affected regions. The statement concluded with a plea for an end to impunity and a renewed commitment to human dignity and justice.
