A forest squad in Keonjhar district apprehended a hunter late Wednesday night who was found suspiciously roaming inside the Hadgarh sanctuary under the Anandpur wildlife division. The accused has been identified as Sama Ho (40), a resident of Jadabanka village.
Details of the Operation
The operation was led by Marshal Kisku, Range Officer of Hadagada range. While patrolling near Mashakhia around 10 pm, the squad noticed Sama wandering inside the sanctuary. They stopped him for questioning and conducted a thorough inspection. During the search, the team seized four legs of a barking deer, some meat, traps, and a knife from his possession.
Legal Action Taken
Following the seizure, the accused was presented before a court. The court denied him bail, and he was subsequently sent to Anandpur jail. Range Officer Marshal Kisku confirmed the development, stating that strict action has been taken against the poacher.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by forest authorities to curb illegal hunting and protect wildlife in the region. The Hadgarh sanctuary is home to diverse flora and fauna, and such patrols are crucial for conservation.
