In a daring rescue operation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed a Mi-17 V5 helicopter from the Central Air Command (CAC) to save two children who were stranded on top of a water tank in Sidharth Nagar, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred when five children climbed the water tank to record a social media reel. The access stairs gave way, causing three children to fall. One child died, and two others are receiving treatment at a medical college. The remaining two were left stranded on the tank overnight.
Rescue Mission Details
The district magistrate of Gorakhpur, Shivsharanappa, stated that the rescue operation required coordination between the fire department and the IAF due to difficult terrain and poor road access. Initially, a fire engine was called from Gorakhpur, but the muddy soil and inadequate roads necessitated a backup plan. The IAF was contacted, and a helicopter was dispatched around 5 AM. The two stranded children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents.
IAF's Swift Response
The CAC IAF shared videos of the rescue on social media, highlighting the professionalism and commitment of the IAF in saving lives. The post emphasized the swift response in times of need, showcasing the IAF's dedication to humanitarian missions.
Official Statements
Shivsharanappa expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister's office for coordinating with the Air Force, ensuring a successful and quick operation. Officials confirmed that the rescued children are under medical care, with further details awaited.
