Dehradun: The Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun is set to achieve a historic milestone as its first batch of foreign women officer cadets will graduate in June next year. This comes months after the academy's inaugural cohort of Indian women cadets joined the Army earlier this year.
The foreign batch comprises women from four countries currently undergoing rigorous training at the academy. According to an IMA officer, "The batch includes two cadets each from Uganda and Seychelles, and one each from Bhutan and Eswatini. They will be commissioned into their respective armies after completing training in June next year—a historic moment for the academy that we are eagerly anticipating."
One of the foreign cadets expressed that witnessing India's first women cadets pass out on Saturday had strengthened their resolve to complete training and achieve another milestone at IMA next year. "We are now more determined to give our best and make the academy as well as our countries proud. We hope that our batch will motivate more women to join the Army and enroll at IMA for training with government assistance," another cadet added.
Academy officials confirmed that the second batch of Indian women cadets will graduate during the passing-out parade scheduled for December. On Saturday, nine women cadets from the first batch graduated after completing their training at IMA.
