FBI Seizes 13 Websites Allegedly Linked to Chinese Intelligence Recruitment Scheme

The FBI has seized 13 websites allegedly tied to a Chinese intelligence-linked operation that targeted current and former US government employees with access to classified or sensitive information, the US justice department said. Officials said the sites posed as consulting firms offering jobs to security clearance holders, but the companies and vacancies were fake and designed to gather sensitive information. According to investigators, the operation used stolen identities, AI-generated photographs and cryptocurrency payments to conceal its activities, while recruiting targets through job postings and professional networking platforms. The action comes amid broader warnings from Western intelligence agencies, including the Five Eyes alliance, that Chinese operatives are using fraudulent employment opportunities to gain access to non-public government information. China has rejected the allegations, with its embassy in Washington describing the claims as entirely fabricated and malicious slander.
