India and Singapore have taken significant steps to bolster their defence partnership, with top defence officials from both nations reviewing ongoing engagements and exploring new areas of collaboration. The 16th India-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue, held recently, saw Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Permanent Secretary (Defence) Joseph Leong of Singapore engage in comprehensive discussions on defence cooperation, military exchanges, industry collaboration, capacity-building, and regional security issues.
Key Areas of Discussion
During the dialogue, both sides assessed the progress of existing defence initiatives and identified new avenues to strengthen their strategic relationship. Emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation in niche and emerging domains, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, maritime security, unmanned systems, and advanced defence technologies. As part of the visit, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh toured the Digital Operations Technology Centre of the Digital and Intelligence Service of the Singapore Armed Forces. The visit provided valuable insights into Singapore's digital and technical capabilities, offering opportunities for potential collaboration with Indian defence forces in niche and emergent domains of warfare.
