New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the capital, a 17-year-old boy was shot at an eatery in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony following a minor altercation. The prime witness, a girl who was with the victim, has provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the shooting.
Eyewitness Account
According to her statement accessed by TOI, the trouble began when one of the accused boys started tampering with a chair next to hers. When the victim, identified as Sai Kumar, objected, the boy began staring at him and using abusive language. Fearing escalation, Sai asked the girl to finish her food quickly so they could leave. The accused boys left momentarily but soon returned. The same boy who had earlier abused Sai then shot him in the back of the head with the intention to kill. When bystanders tried to intervene, the assailants fled while brandishing their weapons.
Investigation Transferred to Crime Branch
Two days after the incident, the case has been transferred from the district police to the Crime Branch for deeper investigation. Police are also considering moving an application before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to try the main accused, who is a minor, as an adult due to the seriousness of the offence and his alleged criminal background.
Accused's Criminal History
The main accused, who has been apprehended, has a previous criminal record in an attempted murder case in Kalkaji. A senior police officer stated, “We are contemplating moving an application before the JJB to try him as an adult.”
Other Suspects at Large
Investigators revealed that besides the main shooter, three more accused were allegedly involved. Two are believed to be minors, and one is an adult. All three are currently absconding. Multiple police teams are conducting raids in Haryana and other states to trace and apprehend them.
Weapon Supply Chain
When questioned about the firearm, the accused told investigators he procured the pistol from a person who is currently absconding. Police are working to establish the supply chain of the weapon and identify individuals who may have assisted the accused before and after the attack.
Victim's Condition
Sai Kumar remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. His family has alleged that the accused also stared at the girl and passed objectionable remarks before the assault. Police are verifying these allegations as part of the investigation.
