Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Wednesday that India will launch a 'smart border' project along its borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh to curb infiltration and illegal activities. Speaking at a BSF event, Shah emphasized the need to secure the borders using advanced technology and urged the Border Security Force (BSF) to remain vigilant.
Smart Border Initiative
The 'smart border' project will involve the deployment of cutting-edge surveillance systems, including drones, sensors, and artificial intelligence-based monitoring, to detect and prevent unauthorized crossings. Shah stated that the initiative aims to modernize border management and reduce the reliance on physical barriers alone.
Demographic Concerns
The Home Minister also cautioned against attempts to artificially alter the demographic composition of border regions. He called on BSF personnel to ensure that such conspiracies are thwarted, highlighting the government's commitment to national security and demographic integrity.
BSF's Role
Shah praised the BSF for its dedication and sacrifice in guarding the nation's borders. He reiterated the government's support for the force and announced plans to enhance their infrastructure and training. The minister also stressed the importance of coordination between central and state agencies to address cross-border challenges.
Strategic Importance
The India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders have been prone to infiltration, smuggling, and other illegal activities. The smart border project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen national security under the Modi government. Officials say the project will be implemented in phases, with priority given to vulnerable sectors.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions with Pakistan and ongoing efforts to resolve border disputes with Bangladesh. The government believes that technological upgrades will significantly improve border surveillance and response capabilities.
