India-UAE Sign Transformative Pacts to Bolster Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed a series of transformative agreements on Tuesday, aiming to bolster the strategic partnership between the two nations across multiple sectors, including energy security and artificial intelligence (AI).

Key Agreements Signed

The leaders inked pacts covering energy, trade, defense, technology, and culture. A landmark deal on energy security ensures stable crude oil supplies to India, while another focuses on collaboration in AI and emerging technologies, establishing a joint task force to explore applications in healthcare, agriculture, and smart cities.

Energy Cooperation

Under the energy pact, the UAE will invest in India's strategic petroleum reserves and expand cooperation in renewable energy, including solar and hydrogen projects. This is expected to enhance India's energy resilience and support its transition to clean energy.

Technology and Innovation

The AI agreement aims to foster innovation through joint research, data sharing, and skill development. Both countries will work on ethical AI frameworks and promote startups in the field.

Strengthening Economic Ties

The leaders also discussed expanding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022, which has already boosted bilateral trade to over $85 billion. New initiatives include a digital trade platform and mutual recognition of standards.

Defense and Security

A defense cooperation pact enhances joint exercises, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism efforts. The UAE is a key partner in India's maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.

Cultural and People-to-People Links

An agreement on cultural exchange will promote heritage, tourism, and education. The Indian diaspora in the UAE, numbering over 3.5 million, remains a vital bridge.

PM Modi described the visit as a historic milestone, stating that the two countries are building a model for 21st-century partnerships. President Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to a strong and enduring relationship with India.
