Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, inaugurated a special exhibition on Buddhist heritage at the Vesak festival in Colombo. The event, held at the Gangaramaya Temple, highlighted the deep historical and cultural connections between India and Sri Lanka.
Exhibition Highlights Shared Buddhist Legacy
The exhibition featured rare artifacts, manuscripts, and photographs depicting the life of Gautama Buddha and the spread of Buddhism from India to Sri Lanka. It also included interactive displays and educational panels aimed at promoting understanding of Buddhist traditions.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
In his address, High Commissioner Jha emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations. He noted that Buddhism serves as a common heritage that unites the two nations, fostering peace and mutual respect.
The Vesak festival, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Buddha, is celebrated with great fervor in Sri Lanka. The exhibition was organized by the Indian Cultural Centre in collaboration with local Buddhist organizations.
Visitors praised the exhibition for its comprehensive coverage and the quality of exhibits. Many expressed hope that such events would continue to enhance people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.
