Indian Vessel Sinks Off Oman, 14 Crew Rescued

The Indian Embassy in Oman has reported an incident involving the Indian-flagged mechanised sailing vessel Virat 1 off the Omani coast. The vessel, carrying 14 Indian crew members, was reportedly sinking approximately 80 nautical miles from Ras Al Hadd. Search and rescue operations are being coordinated by Omani authorities, the Indian Embassy, and other maritime agencies.

US Navy Assistance

According to sources, a US Navy P-8 aircraft assisted the rescue by dropping a life raft and monitoring the evacuation. All 14 crew members successfully abandoned the vessel and boarded the raft. A nearby ship, MV Jabal Ali 9, is heading to the location, while Indian Navy vessels have been diverted to support the rescue mission.

Rescue Efforts Ongoing

The cause of the sinking remains unknown, and rescue efforts are ongoing. The Indian Embassy continues to coordinate with Omani authorities to ensure the safety of the crew.
