Nagpur: An IndiGo Airlines flight from Bengaluru to Hyderabad, carrying over 200 passengers, was diverted to Nagpur on Friday night due to adverse weather conditions in the Telangana capital. The aircraft landed at Nagpur airport around 10:30 PM, as per sources.
Fourth diversion in two days
This marks the fourth flight diverted to Nagpur airport over the past two days due to challenging landing conditions at their respective destinations. On Thursday night, three flights bound for Raipur from Delhi and Hyderabad were diverted to Nagpur because of bad weather in the Chhattisgarh capital. Among those on board one of the Delhi-bound flights was former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and current Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, who were returning after attending meetings in the national capital, sources confirmed.
Airlines and operations
Two of the diverted flights from Delhi were operated by Air India and IndiGo Airlines. The third diverted flight, originating from Hyderabad, was also an IndiGo Airlines service. The Raipur airport experienced difficult landing conditions due to rain and strong winds. Each diverted aircraft stayed at Nagpur airport for approximately half an hour before proceeding to Hyderabad, according to sources managing the situation. Raipur airport typically handles 25 to 30 flights daily.
