Odia Leader Opposes Iskcon's Rath Yatra Dates Abroad

Rourkela: Arun Kumar Praharaj, founder of the Global Odia Diaspora and Bahrain Odia Samaj, has raised strong objections against Iskcon for conducting Rath Yatra and Snana Yatra ceremonies abroad on dates that do not align with the traditional Jagannath temple calendar. He emphasized that these rituals, rooted in centuries-old traditions, must follow the prescribed timings linked to Snana Yatra, Anasara, Rath Yatra, and Bahuda.

Sacred Festivals, Not Logistical Events

Praharaj asserted that these festivals are sacred and should not be treated as mere logistical events. He highlighted objections from the Gajapati Maharaja, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), and various religious leaders. Referring specifically to recent events in Houston and Watford, he urged Iskcon to respect the traditional dates and customs.

Global Odia Bodies Adhere to Traditions

He noted that global Odia community organizations observe these rituals strictly according to the traditional calendar, even under challenging circumstances. Praharaj called upon Iskcon to follow suit and maintain the sanctity of the festivals by adhering to the age-old schedule.
