External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong held comprehensive discussions in New Delhi on Tuesday, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging perspectives on the Indo-Pacific and West Asia regions.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The two leaders explored various avenues to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, defense, technology, and people-to-people connections. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discussed ways to further elevate the relationship.
Indo-Pacific and West Asia Discussions
Jaishankar and Wong exchanged views on the evolving situation in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the importance of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. They also deliberated on recent developments in West Asia, underscoring the need for stability and peace in the region.
The meeting comes ahead of the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue between the foreign and defense ministers of India and Australia, scheduled later this year. Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral ties and agreed to maintain regular consultations on regional and global issues.
