Japan PM Takaichi Sanae Likely to Visit India for Summit

New Delhi: Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae is likely to visit India next month for a summit meeting with her counterpart, Narendra Modi. While confirmation from Indian authorities is still awaited, Japanese media have reported that the summit meeting with PM Modi will take place in Assam.

According to a report by NHK, government sources indicate that arrangements are underway for Takaichi to visit the northeastern state to hold her second in-person meeting with Modi. The two leaders had earlier met on the margins of the G20 summit last year in Johannesburg, where they agreed that strong ties between the two countries are indispensable for regional and global peace, prosperity, and stability.

The visit to Assam will be significant as both countries, under the India-Japan Act East Forum, collaborate on projects aimed at the economic modernization of India's northeast region. The leaders are expected to discuss the economic consequences of the West Asia conflict, given that both nations are heavily dependent on energy supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, they are likely to explore possible initiatives to intensify cooperation on critical minerals.
