Bhubaneswar: Japan's ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, praised dalma, a signature Odisha dish, during the announcement of a joint venture between JSW and Japan's JFE Steel at Rengali in Sambalpur district recently.
Traditional Odia Hospitality
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who was present at the programme, welcomed the envoy along with senior officials and industry representatives. As part of the state's customary hospitality, Ono was served traditional Odia food, which he later said left a lasting impression on him.

Taking to social media platform X after the event, the Japanese envoy wrote, "Enjoyed dalma in Odisha. Delicious, and a wonderful reflection of Odisha's rich culinary culture!"
The post drew a warm response from the chief minister, who thanked the ambassador for appreciating Odisha's culinary heritage. In his reply on X, Majhi wrote, "Delighted to see you enjoying the flavours of Odisha, Ambassador Ono San! Dalma is the heart of our kitchen, and we are honoured by your kind words. May our bond continue to grow over many more such meals. Ono San, Arigatou Gozaimas."
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The event marked a significant step in India-Japan economic cooperation, with the joint venture expected to boost steel production in the region. The ambassador's appreciation of local cuisine further underscored the cultural exchange between the two nations.
