The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Jharkhand on schedule this year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) office in Ranchi. The normal onset of monsoon in the state typically occurs between June 13 and June 15, starting from the Sahibganj district in the north.
Favorable Conditions for Timely Monsoon
Baburaj PP, director of the Ranchi Met office, stated that current conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon to hit Jharkhand on time. He noted that delays could only occur if there are disturbances or low-pressure formations. Otherwise, the monsoon should arrive as expected.
Meanwhile, the IMD has announced that the southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala around June 4.
Temperature Rise and Pre-Monsoon Showers
The Ranchi Met office also reported that day temperatures across the state, including in Ranchi, are likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. However, night temperatures may drop due to pre-monsoon showers expected in the afternoons or evenings at isolated locations.
Only the northwestern districts of the state—Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, and Latehar—are expected to experience hotter conditions, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. In other districts, daytime temperatures are unlikely to cross the 40-degree mark.
Yellow Alert Issued
The Met office has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated parts of the state over the next few days.
In the past 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms occurred at isolated places. The highest rainfall of 21.6 mm was recorded at Ranchi airport. Daltonganj recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi recorded 33 degrees Celsius.
