The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has announced the implementation of an alternate-day water supply across the city and adjoining areas starting April 30, 2026, due to a sharp drop in water levels and the prospect of a prolonged summer.
New Water Supply Schedule
Under the new schedule, the city's A, B, and E wards will receive water on alternate days beginning April 30. Meanwhile, C and D wards will shift to the alternate-day supply from May 1. Officials have appealed to residents to use water judiciously to ensure availability until the monsoon season.
Reasons for the Decision
KMC water supply engineer Harshjit Ghatge explained that intense summer heat, rapidly depleting storage in the Kalammawadi dam, and the impact of El Niño and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) have raised fears of delayed and lower-than-normal rainfall this year. "To stretch the available reserves till the monsoon, it has become necessary to limit daily water extraction from the Kalammawadi and Shingnapur schemes and impose alternate-day supply," he said.
Affected Areas from April 30

Areas served by the Puikhadi water treatment plant, including Phulewadi Ring Road, Saneguruji Colony, Crusher Chowk, Aptenagar Tank vicinity, Rajopadhyenagar, Jargannagar, Krantisinh Nana Patil Nagar, Devkar Panand, Shivaji Peth, Mahadwar Road, Mangalwar Peth, Sambhajinagar, the vicinity of Subhashnagar pumping station, the vicinity of the Shendapark tank, Jawahar Nagar, Y P Powar Nagar, and Mirajkar Tikati, will be affected.
