Lucknow Heat Rises as Duststorm Fails to Cool; Temp to Hit 40°C

Lucknow: Mercury continued to rise in the state capital on Wednesday, and a brief duststorm that swept through parts of the city in the afternoon failed to bring respite from sultry conditions. The meteorological department has warned that temperatures will rise further in the city and across the state in the coming days, with dry hot winds likely to lash several regions.

Sudden Weather Change

In Lucknow, the weather changed suddenly around 2 pm when dense clouds gathered over the city and strong winds swept across several localities. However, the temperature continued to rise despite the duststorm. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Lucknow, a western disturbance affecting several parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh triggered this sudden change in weather conditions.

Temperature Records

The city recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius, marginally below normal, while the minimum settled at 27.8 degrees Celsius, which is 2.8 units above normal. The maximum temperature is expected to touch 40 degrees Celsius in the next two to three days, indicating a sharp rise in heat levels.

Banda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 45.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.4 degrees above normal, followed by Jhansi at 44.5 degrees Celsius, Prayagraj at 43.5 degrees Celsius, and Hamirpur at 43.2 degrees Celsius. Senior IMD scientist Mohammad Danish stated, "Dry weather and rising temperatures over the coming week may bring back heatwave conditions in the state. Recent storms and showers were caused by the interaction of easterly and westerly winds."
