Lucknow: Residents woke up to dark clouds, gusty winds and light rainfall on Saturday morning. Thundershower brought relief from the heat and humidity of the past several days. The respite, however, was short-lived as humidity levels rose sharply and sultry conditions returned after sunshine broke through the cloud cover later in the day.
Sunday Forecast
Partly cloudy sky with temperatures below normal are expected on Sunday. Weather changed around 6 am when the sky was overcast with dense clouds followed by strong winds, a dust storm and light drizzles.
Rainfall and Temperature Data
Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow recorded 5mm of rainfall. Maximum temperature settled at 34.7 degrees Celsius, 4.6 degrees below normal, while minimum temperature was 21.3 degrees Celsius, 4.8 degrees below normal. About 5mm rainfall was recorded in the city.
RMC senior scientist Mohammad Danish said a western disturbance over Himalayan region, cyclonic circulation over central and eastern UP and moisture-laden easterly winds from Bay of Bengal combined to trigger thundershowers and rainfall across the state.
“The interaction of these systems has led to widespread cloud cover and thunderstorm activity, resulting to drop in temperatures across most districts,” Danish said. Rainfall was reported from parts of central and eastern UP. Ayodhya received 33.8mm, followed by Sultanpur (27.4mm) and Rae Bareli (16.5mm). Orai was hottest place in the state at 41 degrees Celsius, followed by Banda (40.6) and Jhansi (40).
At the other end, Etawah was coolest at 32.6 degrees Celsius, while Hardoi and Najibabad recorded maximum temperatures of 33.5 degrees Celsius each.
Met department said isolated rain and thundershowers are likely over western UP in the next 24 hours, while eastern parts of the state are expected to remain largely dry.
