Ludhiana Admin Conducts Mock Drills, Forms QRTs for Floods

The Ludhiana district administration has announced a series of measures to bolster flood preparedness ahead of the monsoon season. In a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, officials decided to conduct mock drills and form quick response teams (QRTs) to ensure swift action during potential flooding.

Mock Drills to Test Response Mechanisms

The administration will organize mock drills in flood-prone areas to evaluate the effectiveness of existing disaster management protocols. These drills will involve multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and health departments. The aim is to identify gaps and improve coordination among stakeholders.

Formation of Quick Response Teams

Specialized QRTs will be deployed in vulnerable zones, equipped with boats, life jackets, and rescue equipment. Each team will consist of trained personnel from the civil defense and fire brigade. The teams will be responsible for evacuating residents and providing immediate assistance during floods.

Key Measures Announced:

  • Identification of low-lying areas and waterlogging hotspots
  • Pre-positioning of rescue and relief materials
  • Setting up of control rooms for real-time monitoring
  • Awareness campaigns to educate residents on flood safety

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of community participation, urging citizens to cooperate with authorities during emergencies. She also directed officials to ensure proper maintenance of drainage systems and desilting of canals before the monsoon.

These proactive steps come after last year's floods caused significant damage in parts of Ludhiana. The administration aims to minimize loss of life and property through enhanced preparedness and rapid response capabilities.
