Madurai: District collector P Akash conducted an inspection of the renovation and development work underway at the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal on Friday. During the visit, he engaged with officials to assess the progress of various tasks, including the laying of flooring stones, development of a site museum, establishment of a sculpture courtyard, installation of a rainwater drainage facility, and construction of modern toilets. Following the inspection, he directed the officials to expedite the completion of the work.
Inspection of Arittapatti Monuments
The collector also examined the monuments protected by the Department of Archaeology at Arittapatti, which feature Jain beds and Tamil Brahmi inscriptions dating back to the 2nd century BCE. Additionally, he visited a rock-cut cave Shiva temple from the 7th century. He instructed the officials to ensure the protection of these monuments and to provide basic amenities for visitors.
This inspection underscores the district administration's commitment to preserving historical heritage while enhancing the visitor experience. The renovation of Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal is expected to boost tourism and showcase Madurai's rich cultural history. The Arittapatti site, with its ancient inscriptions and cave temple, remains a significant archaeological treasure requiring careful conservation.
