Man dies after falling into uncovered drain in Alappuzha

A tragic incident occurred in Alappuzha on Friday night when a 45-year-old man lost his life after falling into an uncovered drain filled with polluted water during heavy rainfall. The deceased has been identified as Mahesh, popularly known as Boban, son of the late Thankachan, a resident of Chathanad Municipal Colony in Alappuzha.

Details of the Incident

The accident took place just 200 meters away from Boban's home. He was a carpenter by profession and had left his residence around 9 pm on Friday while it was raining heavily. Initial investigations suggest that he slipped and fell into the drain, which was overgrown with weeds and lacked any covering or railings. The drain is located along the Chathanad Municipal Colony-Kavitha ITI Road.

Even nearby residents failed to notice the incident. It was not until around 1:50 am that visitors to a nearby homestay spotted someone lying in the drain. They immediately alerted the police and the fire brigade. Firefighters from Alappuzha rushed to the scene and retrieved the body from the drain.
