Massive Fire in Central Jakarta Destroys 250 Homes

A massive fire broke out late Monday night in the Kebon Kosong area of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Indonesia, destroying approximately 250 semi-permanent homes and displacing 300 families. According to the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, the initial report was received at around 8:55 p.m. local time, and firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Fire Spread Rapidly Through Densely Populated Area

The blaze began in two houses at around 9 p.m. before spreading rapidly through the densely populated settlement. The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police deployed 200 officers to assist with evacuations and secure the area, while more than 25 fire trucks battled the flames. Authorities set up emergency tents and a field kitchen with Brimob support to help displaced residents.

Injuries and Ongoing Investigation

According to reports, three people were injured and are being treated at Hermina Kemayoran Hospital and RSCM Hospital. After several hours of firefighting operations, the fire was brought under control at approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday, with response efforts completed at 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday. The fire displaced around 330 households, affecting nearly 620 residents who were forced to flee their homes. Investigators suspect an electrical short circuit as the cause, though the official inquiry continues.
