A massive fire erupted in a forest area near Mand Jodhwal village in Ludhiana on Saturday, causing extensive damage to trees and posing a serious threat to local wildlife habitats. The blaze was first detected by rising smoke, prompting immediate response from firefighting teams.
Challenges in Firefighting Operations
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered significant obstacles due to the dense and inaccessible terrain of the forest interior. Initial efforts involved extending long hose lines deep into the woods, but inadequate water pressure forced responders to adapt their strategy. In a collaborative effort, firefighters and local volunteers resorted to traditional beaters—tools used to physically beat out flames—to bring the fire under control.
Containment and Impact
The combined efforts succeeded in containing the blaze within two hours, preventing it from spreading to nearby residential areas. However, the fire destroyed numerous trees and disrupted an area known to harbor diverse bird species and burrowing animal populations. The ecological impact is under assessment by forest department officials.
Investigation Underway
The forest department has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Officials are examining whether the incident was accidental or intentional, as the region is ecologically sensitive. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activity that could lead to forest fires.
