Phase 1 of the Metro Line 5 corridor is progressing steadily toward the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspection stage, a key milestone before commissioning. Infrastructure work in this phase is in an advanced stage, with final preparations underway for inspection readiness.
A 34.2 km Mega Metro Expansion Takes Shape
Metro Line 5 corridor has evolved into one of the region's largest networks, stretching 34.2 km across Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar. The expanded alignment significantly broadens regional metro connectivity and strengthens urban transport reach.
First Ride Promise by Year End Horizon
The initial stretch between Thane and Dhamankar Naka in Bhiwandi is expected to open to the public by the end of the year. This Phase 1 segment marks the first operational portion of the corridor planned for commuters.
Metro Line 5A Fuels a Wider Network Leap
The project has been extended under Metro Line 5A, adding 11.8 km to the original corridor. This expansion increases the overall project scope and takes the total cost to Rs 18,130 crore, reflecting a larger integrated metro plan.
Seamless Connection Across Transport Lifelines
The metro line is planned to integrate smoothly with suburban rail and highway networks. This multi-modal connectivity aims to ensure faster, safer, and more efficient travel across the region's transport systems.
Infrastructure Readiness Enters Final Stretch
Phase 1 infrastructure work has reached an advanced stage, with preparations underway for CMRS inspection. The focus remains on completing remaining components to meet readiness standards for evaluation.
Transforming the Industrial and Residential Belt
The corridor is designed to improve mobility for residents of the Bhiwandi and Kalyan-Dombivli belt, a major industrial and residential cluster. The region includes textile and warehousing hubs that depend heavily on improved connectivity.
Eastern MMR Gets a New Mobility Backbone
The corridor is positioned as a key mobility backbone for the eastern Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It strengthens connectivity across Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar, supporting high-volume commuter movement across the region.
