Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi has stressed the need for operational synergy among various naval commands to effectively address the emerging challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. During his two-day visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from April 21 to 22, Admiral Tripathi held detailed interactions with senior officers and was briefed on ongoing operational activities and initiatives, officials said on Thursday.
Focus on Jointness and Coordination
The Navy chief emphasized the importance of jointness and coordination among the three services, as well as with other government agencies, to ensure a comprehensive response to the complex security environment in the region. He reiterated that the Indian Navy remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, which is witnessing increased military activity and strategic competition.
Briefing on Operational Activities
During the visit, Admiral Tripathi was updated on the progress of various infrastructure projects and the induction of new assets, including unmanned aerial vehicles and surveillance systems. He also reviewed the preparedness of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, which serves as a crucial forward base for the Indian Navy in the region.
The Navy chief's visit comes at a time when the Indo-Pacific is witnessing heightened tensions due to territorial disputes, piracy, and the growing influence of extra-regional powers. The Indian Navy has been actively participating in multilateral exercises and capacity-building initiatives to enhance interoperability with friendly nations.
Strengthening Maritime Domain Awareness
Admiral Tripathi highlighted the need for enhanced maritime domain awareness and information sharing to counter threats such as illegal fishing, smuggling, and human trafficking. He called for greater synergy between the Navy, Coast Guard, and other maritime agencies to safeguard India's maritime interests.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located at the crossroads of the Indian Ocean and the Malacca Strait, are of strategic importance for India's maritime security. The Navy chief's visit underscores the government's focus on strengthening the country's presence in the region.
