Lucknow: At least two individuals—a woman and a child—lost their lives, and 21 others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred in Nepal's Pyuthan district, officials confirmed on Thursday. The injured include the driver and passengers, many of whom hail from areas along the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border.
Compensation Announced
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased. The announcement was made to provide immediate financial relief to the bereaved families.
Emergency Response and Coordination
The Maharajganj district administration swiftly coordinated with Nepalese officials to ensure prompt medical assistance. District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma contacted the Chief District Officer of Rupandehi district in Nepal, following which the injured were admitted to Lumbini City Hospital in Butwal for treatment.
As part of the emergency response, SDM Nautanwa Naveen Prasad was dispatched to the accident site to oversee relief and coordination efforts. Additionally, ADM (Finance) established a camp at Sonauli to facilitate coordination with Nepalese authorities. Four advanced life support ambulances, along with six additional ambulances, were deployed to assist in evacuation and provide medical support.
Medical Preparedness
Medical teams at the district hospital and medical college in Maharajganj have been placed on high alert, with beds reserved for any patients requiring transfer to Indian medical facilities. Officials stated that the Nepal administration is extending full cooperation in rescue and relief operations. Continuous communication is being maintained between both sides to ensure seamless coordination.
Assistance for Families
Arrangements have been made to assist the families of the deceased and injured in traveling to Nepal. The District Magistrate expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of all possible assistance.
