National Highway NH-507 has been blocked near Sarigad in Uttarkashi due to continuous landslides, causing significant disruption to vehicular movement. The administration has taken the decision to halt traffic on both sides of the road as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of travelers and local residents. The landslide activity has been persistent, with debris and stones falling from the hillside, making it unsafe for vehicles to pass through the affected stretch.
Deployment of Machinery for Road Clearing
In response to the blockage, the authorities have deployed heavy machinery at the site to clear the road. According to reports, one JCB, one Poclain excavator, and one breaker machine have been positioned on the Barkot side of the highway. However, the clearing operations have not yet begun, as landslides continue unabated in the area. The machinery will be used to remove the debris and restore traffic flow once the landslides subside. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and will initiate road-clearing operations at the earliest possible opportunity.
Safety Measures and Ongoing Efforts
Teams from the district administration and the police are present at the scene to manage the situation. Vehicles have been stopped at safe locations on both sides of the affected stretch to prevent any accidents. The authorities are prioritizing the safety of travelers and locals, and they have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel on this route until the road is cleared. Continuous assessments are being carried out to determine when it will be safe to resume operations.
The landslide event highlights the vulnerability of the region to natural calamities, especially during the monsoon season. The administration has urged residents and travelers to stay alert and follow official instructions. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
