Noida International Airport on Wednesday completed a full-scale aircraft turnaround trial as part of its operational readiness, activation and transition (ORAT) programme, ahead of the commencement of commercial operations. The exercise, conducted on June 9 in collaboration with IndiGo and other airport partners, simulated a complete aircraft turnaround process and tested coordination between various stakeholders and airport systems. The greenfield airport is set to begin commercial operations with domestic flights from June 15.
The exercise tested coordination between various systems, processes and stakeholders, including critical airport infrastructure such as Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS), passenger boarding bridges and ground power systems. VDGS is an automated airport display system that guides pilots to safely and precisely park their aircraft at the terminal gate. The trial also involved integrated baggage handling, cargo operations, in-flight catering services and other ground handling activities. Refuelling scenarios were assessed as part of the airport's operational preparedness.
Additionally, the airport carried out re-validation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Required Navigation Performance (RNP) approach procedures. The airport stated that the turnaround trial was part of a series of advanced ORAT exercises aimed at ensuring seamless coordination across operational interfaces before the start of commercial operations. This milestone marks a significant step toward the airport's readiness to handle passenger flights efficiently and safely.
The successful trial underscores the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved, including IndiGo, which will operate flights from the new airport. With commercial operations slated to begin on June 15, the airport is now focused on final preparations to welcome passengers. The ORAT programme will continue with further drills to fine-tune operations and ensure a smooth launch.
