In a significant move to enhance eco-tourism in Odisha, tourism secretary Balwant Singh and principal secretary of commerce and transport, NBS Rajput, visited Bhitarkanika National Park on Friday. The officials aimed to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for boosting eco-tourism in the country's second-largest mangrove forest.
Inspection of Key Facilities
During their visit, the officials inspected the crocodile breeding and rearing centre at Dangamala. They also toured the natural history museum located within the park premises. These facilities are crucial for educating visitors about the unique biodiversity of the region.
Strategic Planning for Eco-Tourism
The visit is part of a broader strategy to develop sustainable tourism practices in Bhitarkanika. The mangrove forest, known for its rich flora and fauna, including the saltwater crocodile, offers immense potential for nature-based tourism. The officials discussed various measures to improve infrastructure, enhance visitor experiences, and ensure environmental conservation.
Bhitarkanika National Park, spread over 672 square kilometers, is a vital ecosystem that supports numerous species. The new roadmap is expected to focus on eco-friendly accommodations, guided tours, and community involvement to promote responsible tourism.
This initiative aligns with the state government's efforts to position Odisha as a premier eco-tourism destination. By leveraging the natural assets of Bhitarkanika, the authorities hope to attract more tourists while preserving the ecological integrity of the forest.
