Orange Line Work Delayed by Traffic at Chingrighata

Kolkata: The phase II work to bridge the Orange Line's viaduct gap at Chingrighata commenced more than an hour late on Friday due to heavy traffic flow. The second 60-hour traffic block, which involves closing the eastern flank connecting piers 318 and 319, was scheduled to start at 8 pm and continue until 8 am on Monday.

Details of the Traffic Block

A 60-hour traffic block was issued by Kolkata Police last weekend, allowing the implementing agency RVNL to launch a 28-meter concrete deck between pillars 317 and 318. On Friday, the agency began filling the gap between piers 318 and 319 above the eastern flank of the Chingrighata crossing. However, work could not start on time as police struggled to control the heavy traffic.

Impact on Orange Line Operations

Once the 366-meter gap at Chingrighata is bridged, the Orange Line's Metropolitan-New Garia section will extend operations to Sector V. This development is crucial for improving connectivity in the region.
