The Peel Regional Police announced on Monday that they have successfully dismantled a violent international extortion ring linked to a group known as 'For Brothers'. Seventeen men have been arrested and charged in connection with the operation. None of the individuals are Canadian citizens, and the list suggests that all of them are of Indian origin or are Indian nationals.
Targeting South Asian Businesses
The extortion ring specifically targeted South Asian business owners and community members across the region, Canada, and the United States. The group is believed to have been active in Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon, and British Columbia, with additional links to California. The investigation began in December 2025 after several businesses, including restaurants and trucking companies, were repeatedly targeted for refusing to comply with extortion demands.
Violent Incidents
In one notable incident, investigators alleged that two of the accused were responsible for a shooting and arson at a residential address in Caledon, followed minutes later by a second shooting targeting a business in Brampton. The 17 accused are connected to 24 incidents in total. Of those, investigators linked 16 violent incidents associated with 'For Brothers', including arson and multiple shootings that involved 324 rounds being discharged.
Immigration Actions
Six individuals charged by Peel Regional Police may face immigration action, including possible removal from the country, after their criminal cases are concluded. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) arrested and detained six individuals for immigration-related inadmissibility. Of these, three have been removed, two are in CBSA custody, and one has been released by the Immigration and Refugee Board on conditions.

Police Statement
Peel Region Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah stated: “These arrests reflect the coordinated efforts of Peel Regional Police and our law enforcement partners across jurisdictions to disrupt these networks and hold those responsible accountable. Extortion is not confined to one region but connected both nationally and internationally. Addressing it requires strong cross-border collaboration and intelligence-sharing among agencies. We recognize the fear and harm this has caused, particularly within the South Asian community, and remain committed to put a stop to these crimes and keep our communities safe.”
This operation highlights the importance of international cooperation in tackling organized crime that transcends borders. The Peel Regional Police continue to work with partners to ensure the safety of all communities.
