PM Modi and Seychelles President Plant Coco de Mer at National Botanical Garden
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie participated in a tree-planting ceremony at the Seychelles National Botanical Garden on June 27, 2026. They planted an emblematic Coco de Mer palm, a species unique to Seychelles. The event underscored a shared commitment to environmental conservation and green initiatives.
Visit to Giant Tortoise Enclosure
Earlier, PM Modi visited the Giant Tortoise Enclosure within the same botanical garden. The Aldabra Giant Tortoise, native to Seychelles, is among the largest and longest-living species on Earth, with some individuals having witnessed over two centuries of history. Modi described the experience as special, reflecting the deep ecological heritage of the island nation.
Symbolic Ceremony for a Greener World
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi stated, "In a very special ceremony, demonstrating a shared commitment for a greener world! At the Seychelles National Botanical Garden, I took part in a tree-planting ceremony alongside President Dr. Patrick Herminie. We planted the emblematic Coco de Mer, which is unique to Seychelles." The ceremony highlights the strong bilateral relations and joint efforts in environmental sustainability.

The Coco de Mer palm produces the largest seed in the plant kingdom and is a protected species.
