Prayagraj: Residents of the Sangam city woke up to cloudy skies and cool breezes on Thursday morning after sporadic overnight rain lashed several parts of the district. However, bright sunshine returned as the day progressed, pushing conditions back to warm and humid. Despite a noticeable dip in temperature, high relative humidity (RH) kept people grappling with sultry weather.
Temperature Details
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 39.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at 26.6 degrees Celsius. In comparison, Wednesday was significantly hotter, with the maximum temperature touching 43.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 26.4 degrees Celsius. The sharp 4.4-degree Celsius fall in daytime temperature on Thursday brought some relief from the intense heat that prevailed over the past several days, though the minimum temperature saw a marginal rise of 0.2 degree Celsius.
Humidity and Discomfort
While the drop in temperature marked an improvement, discomfort persisted due to elevated humidity levels, which ranged from a maximum of 57% to a minimum of 42%. The high moisture content in the air led to sticky conditions and profuse sweating, particularly during the afternoon when cloud cover gave way to bright sunshine. Residents largely preferred to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours. Those who stepped out were seen relying on umbrellas, caps, and water bottles to cope with the weather. Morning and evening hours, aided by intermittent cloud cover and breezes, remained relatively pleasant.
IMD Forecast
The IMD forecast partly cloudy skies with the possibility of thunderstorms and rain on Thursday night. Similar conditions, including chances of rain and thunderstorm activity, are likely on June 12 and 13, which could help keep temperatures in check across the district.
