Putin Says Western Nations Losing Global Dominance to Global South
Putin: Western Nations Losing Dominance to Global South

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that Western nations are relinquishing their dominant roles on the global stage to countries in the Global South, as the international system undergoes irreversible transformations. Speaking via video link at the Open Dialogue Forum on Tuesday, Putin emphasized that established norms and practices in business and international relations are becoming increasingly ineffective, partly due to actions by Western states themselves.

Shift Towards Multipolarity

Putin highlighted the emergence of a more intricate and multipolar architecture for global development. 'Previous approaches and established norms and rules of business and international relations are gradually becoming less effective, in part due to the actions of Western countries, which are losing their leading positions and giving way to new growth centres - the Global South countries. Right before our eyes, a more complex, multipolar architecture of global development is taking shape,' he stated.

Context of Remarks

The Russian leader's comments come amid heightened tensions, with Russia openly supporting Iran against the United States, Israel, and Europe following weeks of military confrontations. This aligns with Moscow's broader strategy to challenge Western hegemony and foster alliances with non-Western powers.

Putin's address underscores a recurring theme in Russian foreign policy: the decline of Western-centric global governance and the rise of alternative centers of influence. Analysts note that this narrative resonates with many developing nations seeking greater autonomy in international affairs.
