Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Sunday announced that the Rs 2,500-crore Upper High Level Canal Project will provide irrigation water to nearly 42,000 hectares of farmland across 338 villages in tribal-dominated areas of Rajasthan.
Project Details and Benefits
In a statement, Sharma highlighted that the project would transform agriculture in parts of the Banswara district and give a fresh impetus to the social and economic development of tribal communities. He said, "Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajasthan is moving rapidly towards water self-reliance. The Upper High Level Canal Project will prove to be a milestone for the Vagad region and provide long-term benefits to farmers and rural families."
Coverage and Impact
The lift irrigation project spans six tehsils: Banswara, Bagidora, Kushalgarh, Sajjangarh, Anandpuri, and Gangadtalai. It is expected to directly and indirectly benefit around 3.5 lakh people. Officials noted that the scheme will ensure year-round irrigation for farmers in three Assembly constituencies where agriculture remains largely dependent on rainfall.
This initiative is part of the state government's broader efforts to enhance water availability and agricultural productivity in underdeveloped regions. The project is anticipated to reduce dependency on monsoon rains, stabilize crop yields, and improve livelihoods for thousands of rural families.
