Rajasthan Heat Wave: Sri Ganganagar at 47.1°C, Storms Ahead

JAIPUR: Severe heat wave conditions continued to grip parts of Rajasthan, with Sri Ganganagar recording the highest maximum temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius in the 24 hours ending Friday morning, according to the meteorological department. The weather department also reported light to moderate rainfall at isolated places during the same period.

Thunderstorms and Hailstorms Reported

Thunderstorms accompanied by dust storms were reported at isolated places in eastern Rajasthan, while western Rajasthan witnessed thunderstorms and hailstorm activity at some locations, the Met department said. Severe heat wave conditions prevailed in Sri Ganganagar, while several areas in western Rajasthan and isolated pockets of eastern Rajasthan remained under heat wave conditions.

Alert for Northern Districts

The department has issued an alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and rain activity in the northern districts of the state. Thunderstorm and rain activity are expected to increase from Friday, with parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Kota divisions likely to witness dust storms with wind speeds of 60-70 kmph and light to moderate rainfall.

Western Disturbance Impact

The western disturbance is expected to have its maximum impact on Saturday and Sunday. During this period, parts of Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, and Udaipur divisions may witness intense thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places. Thunderstorm and rain activity are also likely to continue in some parts of Rajasthan during the first week of June, the department added.

Temperature Drop Expected

Temperatures are likely to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius due to the impact of rain and thunderstorms, providing some respite from the scorching heat.
