Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the ongoing transformation in global defence dynamics and underscored the critical importance of the India-South Korea partnership in ensuring regional stability and security. Speaking at a defence dialogue, Singh noted that the evolving geopolitical landscape demands closer collaboration between nations to address emerging challenges.
Global Defence Transformation
Singh highlighted that the nature of warfare and security threats is changing rapidly, with technology playing an increasingly central role. He stressed the need for countries to adapt their defence strategies and capabilities to counter new-age threats such as cyber warfare, terrorism, and hybrid conflicts. The minister called for greater investment in research and development to stay ahead of potential adversaries.
India-South Korea Cooperation
Referring to the bilateral relationship, Singh described India and South Korea as natural partners with shared interests in peace and prosperity. He pointed to existing defence cooperation, including joint exercises and technology transfers, as a strong foundation for deeper engagement. The minister expressed confidence that the partnership would contribute to a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region.
Singh also acknowledged South Korea's advanced defence technology and its potential to complement India's military modernization efforts. He invited South Korean companies to invest in India's defence manufacturing sector under the 'Make in India' initiative, which aims to boost indigenous production and reduce import dependence.
