Rao Urges Precautionary Measures for Monsoon

Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has urged officials to implement precautionary measures to prevent disasters as the monsoon season approaches. The directive comes amid concerns over potential flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Proactive Steps for Monsoon Preparedness

Rao emphasized the need for proactive planning and coordination among various departments. He instructed officials to identify high-risk zones and ensure that drainage systems are cleared and maintained. The minister also stressed the importance of public awareness campaigns to educate residents about safety protocols during heavy rains.

24x7 Control Rooms Established

The Deputy Commissioner of the district confirmed that round-the-clock control rooms have been set up at both the district and taluk levels. These control rooms will monitor weather updates and coordinate emergency response efforts. Officials have been directed to remain on high alert and report any incidents promptly.

Additionally, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been pre-positioned in sensitive locations. Equipment such as boats, life jackets, and rescue gear has been stocked to ensure swift action if needed.

Focus on Vulnerable Areas

Rao specifically highlighted regions prone to landslides and flooding, including coastal and hilly areas. He called for regular inspections of dams, reservoirs, and riverbanks to prevent breaches. Local authorities have been tasked with conducting mock drills to test emergency readiness.

The minister also urged citizens to cooperate with officials and avoid spreading rumors during the monsoon season. He advised people to stay indoors during heavy downpours and follow instructions from disaster management teams.

With the monsoon expected to arrive in early June, the Karnataka government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of its residents. The control rooms will function until the end of the monsoon season, providing real-time assistance to those in need.
