Hisar: Grief has once again descended upon Kumhariya village in Fatehabad as the body of Vijay, a young man who traveled to Russia seeking a better life, was brought home and cremated on Wednesday. This tragedy comes just days after another youth from the same village, Ankit Jangra, met a similar fate.
Back-to-back deaths shock village
The consecutive deaths have left the village in a state of shock, with families struggling to cope with the loss of two young lives caught in a distant war. Vijay's mortal remains arrived in Delhi on Tuesday, prompting his family to rush there before bringing him home for the last rites amid a somber atmosphere.
Allegations of job racket
Family members have alleged that both youths fell prey to an overseas job racket. Vijay had traveled in June 2025 after being promised a high-paying security guard job, while Ankit had gone earlier to study Russian and later took up work.
"They went with dreams of earning and supporting their families. Instead, they were trapped," said Raghuvir, Ankit's brother. He claimed that they were made to sign documents in Russian, given basic weapons training, and pushed into the conflict.
Failed appeals for help
The families said they knocked on every door for help, from embassies to ministries, but their sons never made it back alive. Villagers noted that Vijay had previously returned from Russia after earning well, a factor that encouraged others to follow the same path. Now, that same journey has brought back only grief.
