A sloth bear created a commotion at the Subramaniaswamy Temple in Marudhamalai, Coimbatore, on Wednesday morning after it ventured into the temple premises. The bear was drawn by a beehive and spent a considerable amount of time feasting on honey before quietly retreating into the dense forest.
Bear Spotted Near Golden Chariot
The bear emerged from the forest around 8:30 am and was spotted behind the area where the temple's golden chariot, known as the thanga ther, is stationed. Devotees and pilgrims at the site were taken aback by the unexpected visitor and quickly took out their smartphones to capture photos and videos of the bear.
Temple Staff Alert Forest Department
Temple staff immediately alerted the forest department about the bear's presence. However, by the time officials arrived, the bear had already spent a long time exploring the area and had slipped back into the forest. After inspecting the site, forest officials confirmed that the bear had been attracted by the beehive.
The incident caused a stir among devotees, but no harm was reported. The forest department has advised caution and urged people to avoid approaching wild animals if spotted.
