Bhopal: A severe pre-monsoon storm accompanied by rain struck Sheopur district on Friday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including three members of a tribal family. The storm also disrupted normal life in the region, causing power outages and blocking roads with fallen trees.
Wall collapse claims three lives
According to police, three members of a tribal family died when a wall collapsed on them in Suswada village under Aavda police station area. The victims were identified as Bhima (40), his wife Seema (38), and Rajvati (21). They were working in the field when heavy rain and strong winds began around 4 pm. Seeking shelter under a tin shed, they were crushed when a nearby wall collapsed due to the storm. All three died on the spot.
Another fatality in auto-rickshaw accident
In a separate incident in the Salapura area, 80-year-old Bharosi Vaishnav died after an auto-rickshaw overturned in strong winds and struck her. She sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.
Widespread damage and disruption
The storm uprooted trees, damaged electricity poles, and blew away tin sheds and roofs of mud houses in several areas. Fallen trees disrupted traffic, while snapped power lines caused outages across parts of the district.
Recovery efforts underway
Officials stated that revenue teams are assessing the damage. Municipal and police teams are working to clear roads and restore normalcy, they added.
