Chandigarh UT to Clean Sukhna Choe, Develop City Forest
Sukhna Choe Clean-Up and City Forest Plan in Chandigarh

The Chandigarh UT administration has announced a comprehensive clean-up and restoration initiative for Sukhna Choe. The forest department will remove polythene waste and weeds from the choe bed and its banks. Simultaneously, work to realign the channel has been tendered and is expected to be completed within 90 days.

Project Goals and City Forest Plan

Officials stated that the project aims to regulate surface flow and control bank erosion. In addition, the administration plans to develop a 'city forest' in the Sukhna Choe area. This forest will promote conservation, eco-tourism, and public awareness through nature-based learning experiences.

Plantation Plan 2026-27 Review

UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria reviewed preparations for the Plantation Plan 2026-27 on Thursday. He directed departments to prioritize quality over quantity. Last year, 6.64 lakh saplings were planted against a target of 5.76 lakh, achieving a survival rate of about 79%. The new plan targets 4.19 lakh saplings with a stronger focus on better survival and maintenance.
